Rowan McPhee

Hi, I'm Rowan McPhee

Physiotherapist at Busselton

A Titled Sports Physiotherapist, Rowan is particularly passionate about three areas:

  1. Running-related injuries: His experience as a running physio allows him to assess running technique, create tailored rehabilitation programs, and guide clients through return-to-running programs. He loves to help runners with the ambitious goal of completing their first marathon. He thrives on educating individuals about rehabilitation, returning to running, and mastering running form and providing his clients with knowledge that goes beyond physical fitness, touching on mental, emotional, and neurological aspects
  2. Swimmer’s shoulder injuries: Under the mentorship of Brett Slocombe, an expert in swimming physiotherapy, Rowan learned to assess and rehabilitate swimmers. His personal experience as a triathlete fuels his fascination with the mechanics and physiology of swimming, and
  3. Chronic low back pain: Inspired by low back pain guru Peter O’Sullivan, Rowan has adopted a holistic approach to treating clients with chronic low back pain. He enjoys helping individuals find a fresh perspective on their condition, especially when other methods have failed

Rowan’s dedication to his profession is underscored by his role as a mentor for new and recent graduate staff, and his pursuit of a Masters of Sports Physiotherapy has enriched his understanding of sports injuries, assessment and treatment techniques, and evidence-based rehabilitation. He has experience in rehabilitating post-operative shoulder injuries and also has in interest in ACL rehabilitation and takes prides on his hands-on approach in dry needling and spinal manipulation. He loves to learn and grow, and he’s equally dedicated to helping others learn and grow.

“The most rewarding aspect [of being a physiotherapist] is seeing them smile when they are able to achieve a goal or live a life without restrictions. Seeing clients transform their lives to a healthier and happier state of existence is what really motivates me.”

Rowan’s career has been punctuated by experiences in elite sports. He has worked with the Perth Lynx Women’s Basketball team, the Fremantle Dockers AFLW team, and served as the Head Physio for the U16s WA State boys AFL team. These roles have given him invaluable insights into the world of sports injuries and athlete rehabilitation.

Rowan debunks the misconception that healthcare professionals are driven solely by money. He acknowledges the challenge and hard work it takes to succeed in the field, emphasising that his commitment to physiotherapy goes far beyond financial rewards.

Outside of work, Rowan cherishes time spent with his wife and two beautiful daughters. He enjoys cycling, running, swimming, and playing the guitar while listening to music. As a side hobby, he aspires to illustrate a children’s book.

Additional Qualification: Masters of Clinical Physiotherapy (Sports Physiotherapy)

With a mother who was a midwife and nurse, as well as a Lecturer of Nursing at Edith Cowan University, Rowan was exposed to the medical field from a young age. His own experience with sports injuries during his teenage years, coupled with countless hours spent in physiotherapy clinics, ignited his interest in the profession and the desire to help others.
